Today I was thrilled to launch the Zurich-Freetown City-to-City Cooperation (C2CC) which is financing the Freetown Central Business District (CBD) Regeneration Project. This is a comprehensive plan to make our city centre more attractive, vibrant and welcoming for our residents, businesses and tourists.
The project has 4 components; (i) the establishment of controlled parking zones; (ii) the repair and extension of pavements; (iii) the installation of street lights; and (iv) the introduction of more green spaces in the CBD.
I met Hon Stadtpräsidentin Corine Mauch, Mayor of Zurich City, five years ago and we discussed the challenges of Freetown. Today that conversation has materialized into a tangible intervention; the CHF 2.5m Freetown CBD Regeneration Project that will be implemented over 5 years! Our huge thanks go to Mayor Mauch and to Stadt Zürich for this transformative support for Freetown City Council.
