Transform Freetown’s “Health Sector Target One” is the reduction of maternal mortality in Freetown. So on Friday 19th August, Councillor Matilda Kamara and Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr joined CRS and DHMT representatives at Greybush PHU for the handover of essential furniture to the Greybush PHU.
This handover followed the completion of an EU-funded project which included the expansion of the facility’s delivery room from one bed to two bed capacity, the construction of a new post-natal ward with a 5 bed capacity, the raising of the perimeter wall around the facility and the installation of a gate, digging of a borehole and the upgrade of the existing incinerator.
Friday’s handover of a new delivery bed, five post-natal beds, chairs, and shelves funded by CRS means that the benefit of the expansion of the new structures will be fully realized and the quality of services offered at the PHU will be further improved.
Mayor Aki-Sawyerr expressed how inspired she was by the hard work and dedication of the Greybush CHO Foday Ambrose Marah and his team who with very limited resources provide much-needed maternity and other healthcare services to the vulnerable communities in Greybush and surrounding communities. She was thrilled that through the combined efforts of FCC, DHMT, and partners, they can collectively support the Greybush PHU team to more effectively deliver much-needed primary healthcare to local residents.
