Yesterday morning, as Mayor of Freetown and Co-Chair of C40 Cities, I had the honor of opening a one-day orientation and training workshop for journalists and social media influencers. Focused on C40 Cities and climate reporting, this was a great platform for emphasizing the important role of the media in communicating the urgency of the climate crisis.
The C40 Cities funded orientation and training workshop provided an opportunity for media professionals to deepen their understanding of C40 Cities mandate, strengthen advocacy on climate-related issues, whilst learning more about climate actions embedded in FCC’s Transform Freetown – Transforming Lives and 2024-2028 development plan.
Effective media engagement is essential for C40 Cities to amplify its message, shape public opinion, and drive meaningful change, while enhancing public understanding of our work. It is also an essential element of our local climate actions here in Freetown. I was pleased to be joined at the event by the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, and facilitators from the University of Sierra Leone, highlighting the importance of collaboration in advancing effective climate crisis reporting.
